Since my own wedding is finally over, the house renovations, and the master’s degree obtained, I can return to my old shopping habits. Ah freedom. Freedom to rest, freedom to shop and freedom (and time) to put outfits together.
I’m heading to a wedding next weekend and I saw this knot back dress by Zara and had to have it. In Canada, it cost about $79.95 CAD and I wanted to accessorize this dress with something funky and lo and behold, within seconds, I found the Chain, Cord and Stone Necklace at Zara for $39.95 CAD. Lucky me!
I couldn’t help but visit the Zara site to see if any new items were coming out and as soon as I saw the Bird Print dress, I leaped out of my chair, lamenting that I had just spent money on a huge grocery run! My husband is reeling in my spending habits so I have to be more selective. Which one would you have chosen? The back knot dress with the necklace or the bird print dress?
It wasn’t love at first sight with this shoe, but I kept seeing it around and finally tried it on. It was a sexy pair of shoes but I kept debating on whether or not I really needed another pair of heels. The first time I tried it, I tried a 7.5 at one Nine West location in Scarborough. It fit a bit loose (even with my thick tights) around the ankle and I had the buckle on at the tightest. I decided to wait another few days before I considered buying the shoe to ensure it wasn’t my impulsive shopping kicking in. Well, it was a Friday and I was relaxing after work by window shopping and I had to try it again (this time I was tights-free). The friendly sales person couldn’t find a 7.5 (apparently this shoe is flying off their shelves) but suggested I try the size 7 because apparently Nine West tends to design the shoe 1/2 size larger than most. I perused the web via my iPhone and saw many postings on Nine West shoes being a bit larger. I gave it ago and I had to have it! So now I’m drooling over my new pumps!

I absolutely adore these heels. However, warning to those with wider feet (me included). The front of the shoe is very narrow, so you’ll see and feel a bit of spillover when you have the shoe on. I mentioned this to the sales person and she noted that yes, the shoe’s front is designed a bit narrow and I will spill over a bit but that it was just the way shoe was designed. Since I won’t be running any marathons with these shoes, I was happy just to have them for special occasions and work. The damage? About CAN$147 (with taxes included).

I was having a particularly bad day yesterday and my reaction to bad days is to shop! Fun fact: My reaction to a good day is to shop! Either way, I’m shopping. I was perusing The Bay (En franςais: La Baie), and found these interesting RACHEL Rachel Roy wedges. After trying them on, I just had to have them! The shoes cost CAN $190 (tax not included).

They came in a black but I have enough black pumps so to mix up my closet, I purchased the yellow ones. You can view the collection here but there’s no guarantee every Bay will carry her full RRR collection.
I’m wearing the beautiful wedges today…

…and have paired it with black leggings and a striped green and navy shirt. However, I’ve always wanted something cashmere and I found out that The Bay, now carries Lord & Taylor Cashmere sweaters. I’ve got my sights set on a yellow cardigan for CAN$89.00 (tax not included).

Lately I’ve been thinking about getting a new cross body bag for my essentials. Since I’ve been commuting to work (1-1/2 hours) and carrying massive bags, it’s time for me to ditch my baggage…literally. I’ve got a great Lacoste shopper (in black) for roughly CAN$198 (from what a remember – taxes not included) at Town Shoes.

Currently, I’m carrying two big bags (the Lacoste Shopper and a large cross body bag). I’m trying to ditch my clumsy cross body bag and limit my carry-on to my wallet, disinfectant, lip balm, moisturizer, keys and phone. I had my heart set on a Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Percy cross body bag:

However, when I went to Aritzia (they carry Marc by Marc Jacobs handbags/wallets now!), I saw that it was much smaller than I would hope. No secret zipper pockets on the inside.
I scoured various sites and went through Piperlime and Endless by Amazon and came across a few top choices:

Nylon Stripe Ellen by Kate Spade
Werdie Linen Camera by Marc by Marc Jacobs
5 Zip Rockette by Rebecca Minkoff
I’m going to wait patiently for something that makes me want it. If I don’t feel a spark or obsess over a dress or bag, I know that it’s not meant to be…
One of my favourite places to go to first is Durumi & Chocolate Shoes on Queen Street West (near Spadina & Queen – located on the North Side of Queen Street). It’s got some interesting selection in clothing, jewellery and shoes. I have to say, it’s always a danger to let me loose in this store because I always end up leaving with something unique and never nothing. If you’re looking for funky precious pieces, Durumi is the place to go! I recently got this top from the store and I had to have it. The picture below cuts it short but the top is in fact quite long. I wore it with a cardigan but a blazer will do as well and wore some skinny pants, and ensured that I neatly tucked in my shirt.

I love the details and the fabric of the top. Although, I would have to say, wear a beige bra because it can appear see-through under certain light.
Oh sigh! How I wished I was able to contain myself and not buy anything this weekend but I relapsed and went on a mini spending spree. I’m frustrated and disappointed with myself. My friend was right, working downtown does not help! I managed to find three pieces I really liked:
Ecote Suede Shoes via Urban Outfitters:

Warning to those interested in the shoe, there are no half sizes, if you are a 7-1/2 like me, I would recommend an 8 instead of a 7. I had my shopping goggles on and when you do, you tend to feel or think the smaller size fits just fine in the store. When I got home, the shoes was tight in the front.
Pink Pleated Dress from Zara:

I saw this lovely dress after work one day and just had to have it. It’s a cute dress but could be overkill if I wear a headband with a bow. I bought a size S and it fits pretty well, it’s not too tight or loose. I’m most likely going to wear this dress with a cardigan and my mary janes.
In addition to these pieces, I also found a lovely mustard top (one size) at Durumi. Unfortunately the store does not have images but I’ll be posting a picture of me in the top soon!
I’ve been on the hunt for a size small sweatshirt dress by Roots for days now. Sold out at almost every location (mostly in grey). I tried to order it from the store to ship to my house but was told the warehouse was out of a size small for the sweatshirt dress in grey! I’ll be be on the hunt this week again. Meanwhile, I’m planning outfits with the dress I’m chasing after. There are no guarantees I’ll get one but if I do, I’ve got these outfits in mind:
The great things about the accessories and jackets is that you can mix and match the accessories with each other. Usually, I choose have a colour in mind (in this case, I’m going with earthy toned colours such as yellow, green and brown).
